Kadın Kamera

Funded by TÜBITAK, the project Kadın Kamera aims to reveal the range of women’s representations on contemporary screens in Turkey and their workforce behind the camera. Using quantitative and qualitative research methods in the analyses of TV series and films produced between 2017-2021, the team examine the relationship between women’s representation and production networks, and look for possible connections, imbalances and discontinuities that these networks may bear between the screens and sets. The project team question the different ways in which screen production is informed by gender, and the extent to which female agency can be defined in these networks. Thanks to the permission granted by Kadın Kamera team, Cüneyt Çakırlar accessed the project’s datasets and requested the team to extract the data they processed for the horror/thriller films produced and released in Turkey during 2017-2021.
